CUSTOM-BUILT HOUSEBOATS AND FLOATING HOUSES
HOUSEBOAT OR FLOATING HOUSE?
The simple difference between a houseboat and a floating house is propulsion. A houseboat has an engine that can drive the houseboat, a floating house doesn't. Another distinction is that a houseboat is registered with the state as a boat and insured as a boat, whereas a floating house will be taxed as a house and insured as a house. Some marinas will require your house to be registered as a boat to be able to dock there, some don't, so it is important to know the rules of where you plan to keep the house. Either way, if the house will be on the water it is required certain safety equipment like 360° anchor lights, USCG approved flares, life jackets, horns, life rings, etc.. Don't worry, we are here to help you prepare for what your new floating oasis is required to have.

FOUNDATIONS:
Unlike a traditional land house, our houses have a flotation foundation. There are many different types of foundations used in the industry, each with their own pros and cons. Here at TwoGypsyHearts, we prefer the use of closed cell floatation foam in our projects. These can either be in the form of pre-made flotation cubes, or by creating a hull and filling it with floatation foam. Closed cell floatation foam does not absorb water and is not damaged by the elements.
